Turning Wifi On Windows 7

/ Comments off

I'm having the same issue (for a few months now). Three things I have done:I use the command prompt to 'ipconfig/release' then 'ipconfig/renew' and that works some of the time.I have to continually use the wizard to fix my network adapter and that works some of the time.Reboot the router and restart my computer.I have tried changing the power management. Just had to redo it - so not sure how the box got checked again. What's confusing to me is my wifi seems to be find at home office (all other devices are connected and working fine), however I NEVER had this issue when I'm working at my small retail business office.I purchased my computer less than a year ago, which makes this even more frustrating! Any other fixes out here? I have an Asus laptop with a Atheros AR9485 wireless network adapter.

I've owned the laptop for a year and a half and never had a problem until the last 6-8 weeks. The wireless adapter turns itself off randomly. I can be in the middle of something and my connection is gone. I click on troubleshooting and it tells me it is off, so I turn it back on and it will work for a while longer until it decides to do it again.I have disabled all other network adapters. I have uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them. I don't know what is causing this. It all started after I hooked up a router (via ethernet) to set it up about 2 months ago. It was only connected for 20 minutes while I set it up, but ever since then my wifi adapter will not stay on.

Like I said, it happens when I'm using the computer.not just when it's idle.Any ideas what I could try? Thanks,Scott. Had that problem with embedded Wi-fi not working on S300 asus laptop. I had to use USB wireless adapter from Trident and that worked OK. Today I had to open laptop to clear dust clogs in the fan (full-speed fan all the time) and found one of the two antenna cables badly pinched by the screen opening mechanism. I bet that was the original reason for not working, I tried million other options, drivers, updates, etc.I couldn't repair tiny coax antenna cable, have to buy it somewhere and see if that is going to cure it completely.

Wifi

Used JHarpJ from 2010 solution above: Even though it's a six-year-old solution it worked! A few weeks after updating to WINDOWS 10 on my ALTEC laptop my Atheros adapter kept turning itself off every few seconds. I found this old post and turned off ability for Windows to turn off adapter to save power (exactly like it's posted above). Don't know why it started turning itself off after YEARS of use but the only thing that changed was installing Windows 10. There was no power issue - the laptop was plugged in!I'm just glad it's fixed! Windows

When you do not want your Toshiba computer to gain access to a wireless network, you can disable its wireless connection. If you are using a laptop with a physical switch built into the device, you can slide the switch to the off position.

Switch Wifi On Windows 7

If your computer does not feature this type of switch or if you want to prevent employees from turning the wireless back on, you can use Windows to disable wireless connectivity. The steps vary slightly depending on the version of Windows operating system installed.
